Training on Risk Management 16-18/12/2017

From 16 to 18/12/2017, with the support of ADA, VMFWG cooperated with the Banking Academy to organize an intensive training course on Risk Management for all the members. Being a fee-based event, this training still attracted 47 applicants in total. However, VMFWG eventually had to limit the number of participants to 20 as requested by the trainer to ensure quality. These 20 participants are representatives of 18 MFIs in different regions of Vietnam, from Dien Bien, Thanh Hoa to Ben Tre etc.

The 3-day training was conducted in an interactive environment where the theories were immediately applied in case studies, in real-life situations concerning risk management practices in MFIs. The participants were not only introduced new knowledge but also encouraged to take part in the discussion to actively learn how to identify, measure, mitigate and monitor risks. They also worked continuously in groups to exchange ideas based on their real-life and unique experience. On the third day, the participants also worked on quantitative assignments to get familiar with the process of assessing and managing risks using data.

The training was also facilitated by a professor on Risk Management from the Banking Academy, who played an essential role in making sure that the flow of knowledge was not hindered by language, background knowledge of participants or other obstacles.

All the participants were satisfied with the course content, the style of teaching and the course organization. Many expressed their wish to have more and more similar trainings; especially those with many case studies and real-life examples. Mr. Nguyen Quoc Oanh from the Anh Chi Em Program hoped that there would be follow-up events for the class attendants to update on how they apply the knowledge learned from the training to their own work; and to share experience with each other to improve the overall level of expertise for all members.
