The Eighth – 2014

Hanoi – Today, 2014 Vietnam – Citi Microentrepreneurship Award (CMA 2014) is held at Melia Hanoi Hotel on December 11th 2014.

The CMA program is a global event, funded by Citi Foundation/ Citi Bank – Vietnam since 2007 and conducted by Microfinance Resources Counselling for Small and Medium Enterprises (former Vietnam Microfinance Working Group – VMFWG) in coordination with Vietnam Small and Medium Enterprises Association (VINASME), the State Bank of Vietnam and Bank Academy.

With the aim of honoring typical microentrepreneurs and microfinance institutions that have significantly contributions to the development of microfinance sector and poverty reduction in Vietnam, the CMA program has recognized the contributions of 360 typical microentrepreneurs, 114 excellent credit officers and 56 typical microfinance institutions in Vietnam.

The 2014 CMA focuses on social performances, sustainable economic activities, initiatives and social responsibility. With the presence of more than 100 microentrepreneurs and microfinance institutions throughout the country, 2014 CMA recognizes 29 microentrepreneurs and microfinance institutions that have excellent contributions and achievements in poverty reduction and economic development in the country, specifically:

  • 06 Typical Microfinance Institutions 2014, including:
    • 01 Microfinance Institution of the year – Thanh Hoa Fund for Poor Women
    • 02 Typical Microfinance Institutions Pro – poor focus
    • 03 Typical Microfinance Institutions implementing Client Protection
  • 20 Typical microentrepreneurs 2014, including:
    • 01 Microentrepreneurs of the year – Muoi Tran Thi, Ben Tre Development Fund for Women;
    • 08 Microentrepreneurs implementing a sustainable production model in their business;
    • 08 Microentrepreneurs achieving economic efficiency in their production business;
    • 03 Microentrepreneurs achieving effective social performance in their production model business;
  • 03 Microentrepreneurs are honored for their contributions for the development of microfinance sector.

The CMA 2014 was attended by more than 200 delegates from: Government, Microfinance Department of Government, State Bank of Vietnam, Ministry of Finance, representatives from Vietnam Ministries, Central agencies and organizations,  donors, Programs/Microfinance Institutions that are members of Vietnam Microfinance Working Group (VMFWG), international and local Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) and the winners of CMA 2014.

 Microfinance Resources Counselling for Small and Medium Enterprises

Microfinance Resources Counseling for Small and Medium Enterprises (former Vietnam Microfinance Working Group – VMFWG) was founded to create a forum for microfinance practitioners to share experiences and together address relavant issues of the industry, contributing to raise the unified voice of microfinance industry to the policy makers. Established in 2004 as an informal Non-governmental Organization (NGO) under the VUFO-NGO Resource Center, VMFWG is open to all individuals and organizations interested in microfinance in Vietnam. In September 2011, Vietnam Microfinance Working Group (VMFWG) officially has been operating under the control of Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (VINASME) in accordance with the Decision No. 238/QĐ-CTHH dated September 5th 2011 on setting up the Microfinance Resources Counselling for Small and Medium Enterprises (the former organization is Vietnam Microfinance Working Group).
